Awards season is in full swing.
If your LinkedIn feed is anything like mine, it’s a steady stream of humblebrags right now. And I have to say, it’s giving me the ick. Wait, hear me out.
Awards programs are important. They’re a great way to acknowledge achievement, contribution, excellence and effort. Showcasing your high performance with an award program finalist or winner rosette can be career changing. And oftentimes, entry submissions require major heavy-lifting and hours of time you will never get back.
I’m 100% all for them. But come on, people, what’s with the humility and timidity when announcing your candidacy? I bet you worked your arse off. I bet you kicked goals and smashed targets. I bet you stepped up and went the extra mile. And I bet you want to say, “F-yeah! I’m so pumped about this!”
So why is my feed a beige dribble of “grateful”, “humbled” “proud” and “honoured”?
Drives me crazy!
Awards programs are about joy and celebration. So celebrate and be flipping joyful!
Well, it’s time to up your game, awards short-listers and winners.
With my handy awards season phrasebook, you can bedazzle that beige turn of phrase. After all, you’re bunging it on social media, so let’s make it sparkle. Let’s turn ‘humble’ into “Hells yeah!”
Try these alternative words on for size:
Insert your fave emojis, and away you go.
You’ve done well. Big breath. Tell the world.
Turn gratitude into attitude, and own it.
You deserve it.
Best of luck, everyone.
